Tron Cubes 2019

  1. Make Your Own
  2. Retro Resolutions
  3. Handhelds, Tablets & Phones
  4. Laptops, Desktop & PCs

Back in 2004, I played about with 3DS Max and created a simple stack of cubes with a neat neon-reflective look. This simple scene took 2 hours to render at the then-standard resolution of 1024×768 on a pretty beefy 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 and 512 MB RAM. Technology has moved on quite a bit!

I've updated my original work to support the plethora of high-resolutions available these days, and am releasing the source files for free use. There’s a bunch of links below to JPEGs, and lossless PNG images in all sorts of sizes. If you’ve any requests for a specific size please contact kroc@camendesign.com or download and render the scene yourself using 3DS Max 2019 (or above?).

If you just want a wallpaper, opt for the JPG versions;
on some systems large PNG files may cause system slow down!

Tron Cubes 2019

Make Your Own

For commercial use, printing, editing, remixing and any instance where you need to work with the highest quality source material possible, here is a 48-bit (16 bits per colour channel) PNG file at 8′192 × 8′192 resolution:

You can also play with the original 3D scene in 3DS Max 2019, and above:

Note: If 3DS Max cannot find the texture files, you may have to re-assign them in the Material Editor. I cannot provide any technical support relating to 3DS Max. If you download this file, you are 100% on your own! You will probably be asked to use either your system’s gamma level, or the one in the file; it’s probably best to go with the one in the file, I don’t know why it does this but it probably has something to do with the file being transferred from 3DS Max 5.

NB: The images below are not resizes!
Every image here was rendered specifically for the target resolution.
